The first iPod was launched only 5 years ago, but the difference between one and launched in early 2006 is quite amazing as you shall see.
1 IPod Generation
The 1st generation iPod was launched in late October 2001 with dimensions to rival the established competition. It was 4inch tall and less than 3inch wide with a weight of about 6 oz. The original iPod had a 5GB memory which can store up to 1000 songs. I also had a screen high resolution and a revolutionary type of control system – the scroll or click wheel. However, $ 400, it was considered a major purchase and at this point the software necessary to use the iPod was only available on the Mac
2nd Generation iPod
The 2nd generation iPod has the advantage be compatible with the PC via a FireWire cable. There was also software now for use with Windows that opened the iPod users more. The actual iPod itself changed very little. The scroll wheel became a solid figure attached to a spinning wheel and there was an additional port for the attachment of a FireWire cable.
3rd Generation iPod
The spring of 2003 saw iPod sales really take off as the 3rd generation was launched. One of the biggest changes in this new model was the ability to link a PC with a USB cable, the USB port is much more common in computers FireWire port and so many more Success could use an iPod with your computer at home. In addition, the 3rd generation iPod had a higher memory (20 GB) and solid function buttons below the screen.
At the same time, Apple launched the iTunes Music Store worldwide that provide a legal source 1000 of the songs. iPod sales are was through the roof and the brand became a household name.
IPod 4th generation
However, Apple continued to release newer and more advanced models and at the end of 2003, the first of the 4th generation iPods were launched. The iPod mini took the iPod in an entirely new – small is beautiful. It was only half the size of the original iPod due to its compact size of the face changed dramatically in the function buttons which had become obsolete and it was controlled by the scroll wheel. It also had to have a smaller screen.
The next step is to the color of the screen and this came with the iPod photo. This model has a bigger hard drive and a longer life battery, plus the ability to display color photos and album covers.
For now, Apple had quite conquered the market for digital audio devices, but their next release proved to be a step towards the adoption of the flash drive market as well. This occurred in January 2005 and was named the iPod shuffle. The shuffle is the smallest model yet and no includes an LCD screen on the face. However, 512MB of memory is at least twice the size of its nearest competitor and the fact that it actually shuffled the songs so that the user does not know what was coming next and its very low price of $ 99 means that the little iPod sold so well as any other model before it.
The last of the 4th generation iPods entered the market in July 2005 and was the youngest to date. The iPod nano made use of a high memory capacity Flash on the chip that allowed him to have considerable memory of 4GB, but still … Well, nano! The nano had new features as well as calendars, notebooks directions, world time and games.
IPod 5th generation
The newest iPod is the 5th generation iPod video. This has the ability to play music videos, television shows and movies downloaded from the iTunes Music Store. It has all the characteristics of technologies nano, but as his full-color screen is larger than the overall dimensions are also slightly larger (though not too much).
As you can see that Apple has kept the changes coming and people have been buying and there seems no evidence to say their latest release is the last.
